Carl von Marr (1858 – 1936) was an American painter and I only recently discovered him. I learned so much from this little portrait study. Here's the original painting.... It's nothing less than bad ass
J, my theory on why representational art fell out of favor in the 20th century is that Hitler approved of it. In fact, he condemned anything else. Consequently, non-representational art was popularized. It became "politically incorrect" - even dangerous - to espouse non-representational art. Subsequently, representational art became associated with Facism. It took the second half of the 20th century for it to come out of the shadows, as it were, and for it to be dis-associated with Hitler.
Your study is 'bad ass', but the woman in the painting actually looks 'bad ass'. This new work is great to see. Keep up the amazing work
